Cornhole Rules of Play

Before playing with new opponents, always check to make sure you are playing by the same standards. There are many different cornhole, beanbag and baggo associations and their rules do vary slightly.  In addition, different parts of the country (and even families and neighborhoods) have their own conrhole variations.  Below we have included what we have found to be the most common corn hole rules across the country.

Rules For Singles Play:

Begin by deciding which player will go first (coin toss, etc.). Once this is decided, the player to go first throws a beanbag at the opposite cornhole board. (Players may toss from anywhere behind the front of the board on their side.) The player on the opposite side reciprocates by throwing one of their bags and so it goes until all 8 baggo bags have been tossed. At this point, tally scores for that round.

3 points are given for every beanbag to make it into the hole. All other cornhole bags that land, and stay, on the board receive 1 point. The player with the higher score subtracts their opponents score from theirs and moves forward with the remaining points. (i.e. player one got 4 points and player two got 7 points, so player two moves forward with 3 points for round one). The player with the most points from the previous round tosses first in the subsequent round, and so it goes until someone reaches 21!

Rules For Doubles Play:

If you are playing with a partner, each of you should be at different cornhole boards. After deciding which team will go first, player “A” on side “1” tosses a beanbag at the opposite cornhole board. (Players may throw from anywhere behind the front of the board on their side.) Next, player “B” from side “1” also tosses a bag at the same board, and they keep alternating turns until they use all 8 bags. At this point, calculate scores for round 1.

3 points are given for every beanbag to make it into the hole. All other cornhole bags that land, and stay, on the board receive 1 point. The player with the higher score subtracts their opponents score from theirs and keeps the remaining points. (i.e. player “A” got 4 points and player “B” got 7 points, so player “B’s” team wins round 1 with 3 points.) Now it is time for the teammates on side “2” to toss. Since player “B” on side 1, won round 1, player “B” on side 2  tosses first. Players will alternate their tosses until they throw all 8 corn hole bags.  Calculate scores again, and keep playing until the first team reaches 21!
